Dr Clive Hoffmann graduated from the University of Sydney. He trained in General Surgery in Adelaide and then did further specialist training in Leeds and London in the United Kingdom. He has been in Private Surgical practice in Adelaide for twenty years, (the last five almost exclusively in Breast and Endocrine Surgery) as well being a Visiting Specialist in the Breast and Endocrine Surgical Unit at Flinders Medical Centre and at Breast Screen South Australia.

Professor Stephen Birrell graduated from Flinders University in undergraduate medicine and was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in molecular oncology. He has studied in Europe and the USA in surgical oncology and is currently Head of the Breast Cancer Unit at Flinders Medical Centre and is a Senior Visiting Surgeon at Breast Screen SA. Professor Birrell exclusively does breast surgery and reconstructive surgery with plastic surgeons Drs Rod Cooter, Tim Proudman and Nicola Dean, he has a special interest in hormonal regulation of the breast and breast cancer genetics. Professor Birrell is a frequent international speaker and has a long collaboration with Professor Wayne Tilley; Head of the Dame Roma Research Laboratories The Hanson Institute, University of Adelaide.

Dr Beverley Fosh is a Surgeon specializing in Breast Cancer management and is now consulting with Dr Clive Hoffmann and Professor Stephen Birrell at The Breast Centre, Burnside Hospital.

 

Dr Fosh studied medicine in Scotland and moved to Adelaide to undertake surgical training.Dr Fosh trained at major hospitals, in Adelaide including Royal Adelaide Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, Repatriation Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Dr Fosh completed a Post Graduate Doctorate Degree in Surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She has published many papers and is still an active participate in research.

 

Dr Fosh is a spokesperson and strong supporter of “Women in Surgery”. This includes giving regularly seminars to medical students and encouraging more women to enter surgical training.

 

Dr Fosh encourages holistic care by incorporating complimentary care to the patient throughout their treatment.

 

Dr Fosh is thrilled to join a team of dedicated professionals at The Breast Centre, one of Adelaide’s busiest comprehensive Breast Cancer Centres.

 

Dr Fosh is married to an Orthopaedic surgeon, and they have two young children.

Dr Michele Brooke-Davy consults on Monday afternoons and all day on Thursdays, seeing post-operative and review patients. Her appointment was in response to our increasing patient numbers and the long waiting time for medical review after imaging. Michele studied science at the Flinders University of SA in 1978 and studied medicine from 1979–1985 including overseas studies in France in 1985. After post-graduate training at Flinders Medical Centre, she started work in General practice in 1990. In addition to comprehensive general practice care, Michele has special interests in Women’s Health, preventative health and screening programs, patient education and counselling. She also has post-graduate training in anesthesia, intensive care and Paediatrics including neonatal care. Michele has been involved in teaching of medical students and was awarded status by the School of Medicine at Flinders University of SA.

Julie studied medicine at Flinders University after completing a Bachelor of Arts (Adelaide) and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Flinders). She has lived and worked in the United States and in SE Asia. When not at the Breast Centre, Julie is a consultant in the Intensive Care psychiatry setting, and engaged one day a week in general adult psychiatry. She has worked exclusively with women in Helen Mayo House and the perinatal psychiatry position at the Women and Children's Hospital, and has undertaken postgraduate study in perinatal psychiatry.

Jane Marsh has over 30 years of nursing experience. She trained at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and then went on to obtain an Oncology Certificate at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. She has worked in Oncology as an Oncology Nurse Specialist with the Sydney Home Nursing Service and as a Chemotherapy Nurse at Burnside Hospital. She is currently a Clinical Manager at Burnside Hospital which incorporates the roles of Clinical Manager of the Brian Fricker Oncology Centre and the Breast Centre. Jane is also the Nurse Specialist for the Endometriosis Care Centre of Australia. Jane has a special interest in helping women cope in a health crisis situation.

Gill Miller has had over 26 years of nursing experience. She trained at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and also has a Graduate Diploma in Health Counselling. As a Breast Nurse she was involved with BreastScreen NSW in setting up two rural Breast Clinics and a mobile Breast Unit, and counselling women and their families. Gill currently also works as a nurse on the cancer helpline at the Cancer Council SA.
